Meet the Artist of May!
My name is Samuel and I'm an 11-year-old student at Vantaa International School. I have a ton of interest and seem to always be sketching, drawing or painting. What really sparked my love for art was a trip to Malaga when I was 9. We visited the Picasso Museum. I guess the art inspired me because ever since then I have been doodling non-stop.
When I was young my speech was slow to develop. Sometimes, words couldn’t tell everything I was feeling and even now sometimes what I want to say gets jumbled up in my head. However when I have a pencil or paintbrush in my hand, I can express myself more clearly. I have volumes upon volumes of sketchbooks and what you see on Helsinki Outlet wall is a very small sample of what I have made in the past 3 years.
The paintings you see on display are a mix of different things. I have painted rabbits due to the Chinese sign for 2023. I felt that they are fun and represent springtime, which is another big inspiration for me. The other paintings dive into themes and the complexity of existence. Last year I really enjoyed my religion class so these represent my thoughts. They could be pretty heavy for an 11-year-old but hey, that's just how my brain works sometimes. I hope you will enjoy them and will be curious about the other types of art I produce.

Samuel´s stunning exhibition is on display in our shopping village from May 2nd to May 31st, 2024. The exhibition space is located on the corridor leading to HopLop, on the second floor.
